How To: Take a screenshot + post it to Xbox Live
WHY? Have you been on Facebook groups or other community sites and seen people post pictures of something for sale? Like, literal pictures? Put your camera phones away unless you're using the Xbox Smartglass app to enhance your play. Let's learn how to take a screenshot with Xbox and post it to your friends using Xbox live! HOW TO DECIDE WHAT TO CAPTURE Get to the screen you want to grab. Is it the rockin' hot outfit you've built and want to share? Is it your character sheet to show off your latest build? Is it some inventory items you want to flog for sale on FB or here in our forums? Or perhaps it’s a movie of the last few seconds of the boss fight the first time you destroy Rakhat in Maw of Lorkhaj! Be imaginative ;) HOW TO CAPTURE THE SCREENSHOT Press the middle "Xbox Guide” button (the big backlit 'X' top middle) on your controller to bring up the Xbox dashboard drawer. Just to the lower left of the dashboard drawer you should see a few options including ‘(Y) Screenshot’ to capture a picture and ‘(X) Record that’ to record a video. Press Y now and what you see in Elder Scrolls will be captured to your local Xbox as a screen shot. HOW TO UPLOAD TO XBOX LIVE Depending on your Xbox live profile settings your screen shot may already be automatically added to Xbox live. If not then you can manually find the file and upload it. - SETTINGS Press the middle "Xbox Guide” button on your controller to bring up the Xbox dashboard drawer. Press the left bumper a few times to get to your login profile. Click on your account name to view your profile. Click the “My Profile” link. Press down on the left stick a few times and select the “Privacy settings” option. Enter your passcode or password. If your settings are not “adult defaults” then click “View details & customise.” Check the “Game content” section to ensure that “You can share game clips & screenshots” is Allowed, and ensure that “Others can see your game clips and screenshots” is set to “Everyone on the Internet” (why did MS lowercase the noun Internet on this screen??) - FIND THE FILE Press the middle "Xbox Guide” button again to bring up the Xbox dashboard drawer. This time to get to ‘Capture options’ press the ‘View” button which is the one with the double square icon on the left side of the “Xbox Guide” button. A “Capture” screen appears in the dashboard drawer. At the bottom select “Manage captures.” You should have some drop down menus. You should see ‘On Xbox Live’ ‘On this Xbox’ and ‘Upload queue’ on the left. Then a filter for ‘Everything’ ‘Game clips’ and ‘Screenshots.’ Finally a filter for games. - MANUAL UPLOAD If you have the Screenshot you’ve taken saved ‘On this Xbox’ you’ll want to upload it to Xbox Live. To do so change your filters to find the file you took. Click ‘A’ to select the file and it will open for you to see. Click the cloud icon in the middle and choose ‘Upload to Xbox Live’ to send the file to the cloud. (Alternatively choose an alternate upload option such as your free Microsoft OneDrive account if you'd like to download it to a laptop or phone for social media sharing! Just login to onedrive.com with your Xbox profile username and password to access the files you upload there!)
- BONUS - SHARE While looking at a game clip or screenshot that you have in Xbox Live you can click icon of the little box with an arrow shooting out of it in order to share the media. If the file is ‘On this Xbox’ then you can only share to social media, but if the file is ‘On Xbox Live’ then you can share to a message (send a friend a clip!) or to a club. HAPPY SHARING!!
