Hi there Elphish Community friends. You're probably here on this article because you're offering to assist Dolmere with some content creation. Thanks much for your willingness to help!
This article will get some of the technical pieces out of the way so that we can focus on the content itself in Discord together.
Xbox Capture Settings
The first thing we'll do is make sure we've all got the same video capture settings. Press the Xbox button to bring up your dashboard. Press the right bumper until you're in the 'Capture & share' section. Move down to 'Capture settings' and open it. You might need to re-enter your passkey or password to open this setting.
The 'Broadcast' settings are currently irrelevant so set your mic to whatever you want for things like Twitch streaming.
The 'Capture' settings are the area we care about. We'll do them in reverse. Under 'Capture location' you probably only have the internal drive as an option. [note: If you do have an external media drive select it and also know that's a great trick for quickly getting the files off the Xbox by just moving the drive to a PC for copy.]
'Game clip resolution' - please set this to 720p SDR. It's good enough for what we're after and a good compromise for file size.
'Automatically upload' - I keep mine set to do not upload.
'Record what happened' - I set that to 30-45 seconds because you're not automatically uploading and you can edit down the videos you make before posting. However the record what happened feature is good for getting those unplanned moments and in our scenario we'll be intentionally capturing anyway.
'Allow game captures' - I set this to 'Captures by me.'
Capturing
To get the video we'll manually start the recording rather than use 'capture that' to pull video from the buffer.
What we'll do is get ourselves into place. Launch the game, login to your favourite character, travel to the location that you've been assigned in the raidplanner. Get yourself in position to start the capture (including talking to the trader and setting the sort order to descending by price if that's your current task.)
Xbox dashboard button again and right bumper over to 'Capture & share.' This time select the 'Start recording' menu option!
You will see an Xbox message that your recording has started. Note that you're not recording your microphone - there is no need or capability for narration here. It's just the built-in game audio being captured.
[A note on making our videos a bit consistent. Before recording: 1) Turn off your ability displays. Menu -> Options -> Combat. "Ability Bar" set to "Don't show"; "Attribute Bars" set to "Don't show"; "Buffs & Debuffs" set to "Don't show" 2) Turn off the social hud. Menu -> Options -> Social -> Chat HUD change to Off. When recording is done remember to set them back to your own preferences.]
Now complete the task that you were assigned while the recording is capturing!
To stop the recording press the Xbox button again and bumper over to 'Capture & share' and select 'Stop recording' from the menu.
Uploading
Now you have the new clip file in your 'Recent captures' of the 'Capture & share' menu. After you have finished recording all of your assigned clips upload them all together.
Go to Capture and share - Recent Captures scroll to the bottom to Show all from the top choose On this Xbox right bumper 3 times and press A to sort into list, go down to Select. Now the list will have little boxes you can check to select the clips you want. After you've selected, go to Upload to OneDrive on the right. Now they should all upload at once.
Sharing
The last step is to get a copy of the file to me, Dolmere. For that you want to open, or install and then open OneDrive on your Xbox. If needed open the Xbox store and search for the OneDrive app. In the app you'll see a Videos folder and in there an Xbox Game DVR folder. Once your capture has finished uploading you'll see it inside this folder. Tap into the capture and you'll see a 'Share' button in the top menu. Clicking it gives you a sharing options pane. You want to get the link to the file in some way. The easiest would be to email it to yourself and then copy/paste the URL from the email into a PM with Dolmere in Discord.
Cheers!!
